Early April we visited Japan to experience the Sakura (cherry blossom). The Japanese Cherry blossoms flowers up, depending of the region, end of March / early April. The full bloom is very short and symbolizes the transience of life.
We started at Tokyo, stayed there during a couple of days (full bloom at this time of most trees). After leaving Tokyo we travelled to Matsumoto, in the middle of the Japanese Alps, by high speed train. The blossom was late here (actually started to bloom way after we left). From Matsumoto we visited Snow Monkey’s in Yudanaka, we walked the old Nakasendo trail from Magome to Tsumago. From Matsumoto to Takayama by bus. From here we moved to our final destination Kyoto. Kyoto is really stunning, so much to see. Despite the hurdle of tourists, Fushimi Inari made the biggest impression. Tip: keep walking uphill and then you will be practically alone. Definitely to put Japan on the list again, since you can only see so little of this beautiful country during your holiday.
